Bill ,you and I grew up together . When your family returned from Europe, after your parents were asleep we would push your fathers Hillman Minx down the driveway and learned to drive a straight stick through Broadfield's subdivision . When you returned  from Viet Nam we visited perhaps a few times before I left for Europe and Jackson Hole , may you rest in peace ,David

Bill was truly my friend in so many ways. He was there when our daughter was born. Before the State Police had scuba divers, Bill and I spent many hours looking for drowning victims and visiting with their families. I can go on and on. The gathering after his funeral, testmonies were given by those he saved. After Nam, times were not kind to my friend. But we kept in touch and talked often. He was the best of the best. Please remember him. he deserves it.

To the family and friends of Bill Oates,

I am so saddened to hear of Bill's passing as he was such a one-of-a-kind. His presence would light up a room, and there was never a dull moment when he was around. He will be missed by all his friends and family members, and his memory will go on in all our hearts. He was a special man and kind friend.
